Let me tell you something, it isn't easy being a boy, eispecially at middle school. First, this is when you're going through puburty and you're about to reach adulthood, second, that's when everything starts to change and more responcibilities, third, this is the hardest of all, you have to put up with a bunch of your peers doing annoying running gags throughout your whole life that I personally don't even get and except it to be funny, eispecially the troll face. Seriously, what is that? Thankfully, that's not the troll we're talking about. Today, we'll be discussingwhat many consider to be Don Bluth's worst film... A Troll in Central Park! Image as found in http://www.badmovieplanet.com/unknownmovies/reviews/rev544.html
Yes, want a good laugh. Watch The Secret of NIMH, then watch A Troll in Central Park, while knowing they're from the same creator! This movie was so bad that it only got a limited release in theares AND only maed $70,000 in the box office. But, enough about what other people think of it because that's not important, we're here to here me talk about stuff no one cares about, so, is it as bad as everyone says? Is it a wonderful dream or is it a nightmare? Well, if you know, there's a new Poor Man adventure up, but, let's keep reading. I'm going to try a different style in my reviews, I'm going to just talk (or type) about it. So, what's good about it? Well, for me, there's a lot. First of all, I love the songs. Yes, I like the song 'Welcome to my World', I love 'Absolutely Green', but my favorite song has to be the villian song 'The Queen of Mean', by the way, while we're on the subject, I love the villian! Gnorga is a funny villian who also kind of scares me! The climax is also kind of epic, and the ending kind of gave me a tear. I'm not going to give it away, the I think things went kind of overboard in the last few minutes of the movie. So, with a paragraph filled with petals, how many thorns are there? Get some gloves, we're going into the thorns! First of all, besides the villians, the characters are uninteresting. Rosie, well, she's a baby so I can't really trash that much on her, but, she's just kind of uninteresting! Now, the other kid who's name I forgot because I don't care about him, so let's skip him. Now, for the main hero, Stanley the troll, and if you mention the troll face I will kill you! Who, voiced him anyway... what, Dom Delluise. Well, to his credit, he does a very good job at voicing the character, and I kind of like Stanley, though he gets to kiddish sometimes. Speaking of so, that's the main problem, it gets to kiddish! It's meant for toddlers! It looks like something you would see in Disney Junior or a Korean kid show! So, my overall thoughts, it's a good movie! Yes, this is problaby the first positive review of this movie in the entire internet, so, you can email the admission price to me. ;) So, it doesn't match An Americna Tail, The Land Before Time, Anastasia, or The Secret of NIMH, it's a good movie on it's own. Ok, so why did it not do so well. Well, first of all, toddlers don't review movies, adults do! And adults may take it too cute. Second, my Mom pointed out that it may be too modern for that time. Tastes have changed from 1994 to 2012! Third, it's the same year as The Lion King! That movie is way better, and people are comparing it to this movie! I'm not saying this movie is better than the Lion King, but, I'm saying it's a good comparison. So, I'm going to break up my thoughts now. Story: 58/100 Yes, this movie lacks plot and is full of filler, but, the plot itself is quite dramatic, I'll give it that. Characters: 36/100 Yes, this the weak point, everyone is just bland, except Stanley and the villian. Comedy: 53/100 Ok, so, thie comedy may be too kiddish even for my mind, but, some sequences are just hirlarious for me, like, when Gus (Ah, that's the kid's name!) takes the Dream Boat for a spin. That was hirlarious for me! Heart: 73/100 Some scenes give you a 'heart' attack because they're so bad, but, it was very heart warming. Like, the ending, though over the top it's dramatic and gives you a bit of a smile. In fact, I think that's the main focus, to give some heart to the audience. Overall: 55/100 Though a bit bland, it offers some good heart and some good scenes, and people really need to give this film some more credit. If I am to make a Top 5 Underrated Animated Films list, this is a great canidit for the number one spot. So, good bye, good night, and good day, for that's my new catchphrase and I'm sticking to it! Next Time: The Secret World of Arrietty
