Yea, I know, I'm so up to date. Yea, I tried to do it in video, but I just gave up, so instead I'm only going to do other films in video, because theatrical films tamper with my pacing. That and I'm a lazy butt who watches cat videos all day. So, put on your afro and get your circus on, this is Madagascar 3.
Ironic how the old characters are on most of the poster, yet they have the least to do with the plot. The only one who has a major part of the plot is Alex, who is pretty much the same as the first two films. Marty the Zebra (Who doesn't steal our money, thank god for that), doesn't do much in this movie (besides circus afro) but I give him points for staying in character. Now, I got some bad things to say to you two Gloria and Melman. You should be ashamed of yourselves, go in the closet and sit there till I feel like letting you go. Yea, they have been reduced to a very disturbing sub-plot (That, in total, takes 1 minute 13 seconds of the movie) to forward their very disturbing romance. Again, the monkeys, the penguins, and most of the lemurs are barely in the movie (but still in character) but Julien, well, at first he's a royal pain, but when he meets the bear...... he gets eaten. The End. No refunds. (Kidding, kidding)
Now, do you see the three characters shoved in the corner of the poster, yea, they're the most interesting characters in the movie. Gia the leopard is a good enough character, but if she doesn't serve to the main plot, then a love interest isn't needed right? Yea, I taught you well. Stephano the sea lion is one of the funnier parts of the movie, and Vitaly the tiger might be the best character in the movie, though I can't buy what he did in the circus before he gave up on the circus, it's just impossible! Also in the corner is Officer, eeh ooh ah, Dubois? Though Vitaly might be the best character, Dubois is my favorite. Though she never really serves to the main plot or interact with the circus, I found her hilarious. Meh.
The plot: CLICHED CLICHED CLICHED! It's extremely predictable, and you could've easily avoided it and it would've been as easy. The first few minutes are also pretty slow. But, we didn't come for the plot, we came for the characters and the fun atmosphere it creates. I know, I said that to myself 20 times. The animation can be really beautiful, especially in the London performance. So, what do I think?
Plot - 49/100 Very cliched you know
Characters - 76/100 Simple phrase: Out with the old and in with the new.... sucker.
Emotion - 59/100 I like the moral it creates and how the circus gets along with our main heroes, but the cliched plot kind of ruins it.
Animation - 83/100 Very beautiful, though sometimes the new cartoonish theme can backfire, and effect the plot majorly. Like Vitaly's flashback.
Overall - 66.75 It's not a great movie when you judge it story wise, but when you're looking for something fun and exciting, then this film is worth seeing. I know I enjoyed it. Doesn't stand out in Dreamwork's record, nor 2012's film record period. I might consider it the best of the series, and i like what happened to Dubois in the ending. It's a nice reminder of the first film. It's not great, but its' fun. Go check it out if you want a fun ride. So, yea, so I don't get hated as a film critic, I'm brave enough to push Brave tomorrow.
