Well, it's officially halloween season! And you know what that means.... CANDY! CANDY! GIVE ME MY BIG, FAT, SWEET CANDY!
Please excuse us as he takes time to deliver his medication
Please excuse me, I have issues. So, Halloween is great, and the movies usually are too, and this movie is.... interesting. It's about Dracula, who runs a hotel to protect his daughter from humans, only for her to fall in love with a human on her own.... wait, a human and a vampire falling in love, oh no, this is an animated version of Twilight! Quick, run, tell the people! Oh the travesty! I AM A MAN! Anyway, let's start off with the characters. Dracula, voice by Adam Sandler, is by far the most likable character in the movie. He goes through obsessive lengths to protect his daughter, and I like that quality in fathers. Plus, he doesn't sparkle, so that's good. I like his history and his relations with his daughter, who I also thought was an accurate portrayal of a teenage girl, well, being a vampire anyway. And there's John, the humans who comes to the hotel. While Dracula is the most interesting, John is probably the funniest. He has a bunch of good lines, and I like how he actually cares for Dracula, and doesn't think of him as just a monster, and as the movie progresses, he is more than just the dummy he appears to be in the trailers. Now, for the most part, these are the only really important characters in the movie I can reveal without spoiling anything. Yes there is the mummy, the werewolf, invisible man, and Frankenstein, who have some good moments and are good supporters for Dracula, but for the most part, that's all. The others are just one situation after another, and the closest thing to a villain is a chef who only has about 20 lines in the movie. Yes, the villain is a chef. A chef named Quasimodo. Could've done something a little more with that, or not even have a real villain, I mean, the story doesn't call for it. Anyway, he's barely in the movie so I'm going to ignore that. Speaking of one situation after another, that's the main issue on the plot. The editing is really annoying, especially in the introduction of the hotel, and the film was kind of giving me a head ache. In fact, as I'm typing this I'm thinking of getting some tylenol, thank god I didn't see it in 3d, that would've brutally murdered me! Plus, occasionally they do these shots where it's just the face in the corner. And I don't mean three to five, oh no, pretty much every 5 minutes! So, it's just choppy, but the plot is original, and that's more than I can say for other films this year, even ones I love like Lorax and Brave. Still, the animation is decent, the sets are creative and the texture is ok, but far from the best this year. So, what do I think? Plot - 75/100 Original, simple, and overall sweet Characters - 60/100 The main characters are good, so that's all we can really hope for. Animation - 75/100 Decent, but the editing, by god, one of the worst editing I've seen in an animated film. GOD, MY HEAD HURTS! Moral - 68/100 People change, and you got to learn to let go of what you love. Though not too clear I like what they presented. Overall - 69.5/100 Overall fun, harmless, but forgettable. It's good to sit down with if you're not sensitive to motion sickness. I just can't get into love stories, but it's presented pretty good and it's in the main plot so I shouldn't complain. It's just not really for me, but my family loves it. It really depends on your taste, if you don't mind a film you sit down at go ahead. If you like love stories, go ahead. If you like Twilight go jump in a hole. (I have nothing agaisnt Twilight fans, and if you have any complaints about me please shed mercy). Not for me, but maybe it's for you.
